Every Thread is a Decision: Why My Materials Matter

Some people choose materials based on trend. Others choose by price.
I choose mine based on what they stand for, and who they honour.
Because in my world, materials aren’t just components.
They’re quiet messengers of values, fibers spun with intent.
And Loop and Love is my way of proving that we can build a beautiful object withoutcompromising the earth, people, or purpose.

🌱 Bio Cotton: Grown Gently, Felt Deeply
At first glance, bio cotton looks like regular cotton. But it isn’t.
It’s grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or GMOs.
It preserves soil health, protects farmworkers, and saves water.
But more than that, it feels different.
Physically softer. Spiritually cleaner. Energetically lighter.
“Comme un vin bio; pur, traçable, et cultivé avec soin.”
Like organic wine; pure, traceable, and cultivated with care.
When I hold bio cotton yarn in my hand, I feel the absence of harm.
No chemical residues. No toxic histories.
Just potential, for something honest, lasting, and beautiful.
And that’s what I want Loop and Love to embody.
有机棉是“无毒的温柔”。
Organic cotton is gentle without poison.
♻️ Recycled Polyester: A Story Retold
Polyester gets a bad reputation. Rightfully so, when it’s virgin, mass-produced, and built to break. But recycled polyester, particularly RPET from post-consumer waste, is different.
It’s a second chance, engineered to redeem the past.
The RPET has a 59% lower carbon footprint than virgin polyester.
It’s made from discarded plastic bottles and production scraps.
Instead of going to landfill or ocean, it becomes… fabric.
“Le progrès est un processus.”
Progress is a process.
And RPET is the thread that remembers.
I like that. That it holds memory.
That it once carried something, and now carries something else.
From bottle to yarn. From waste to adornment.
Nothing is lost. Everything is transformed.
✂️ Upcycled Yarns: Beautiful Rebels
Not all yarns are recycled. Some are rescued.
Factory leftovers. Production off-cuts. Discontinued colourways.
The kinds of materials that are too “irregular” for mass production, but too precious to throw away.
These are the beautiful rebels.
No two are quite the same. They arrive twisted, textured, moody.
And yet, when crocheted into a scrunchie, they become one-of-a-kind objects of charm.
“L’imperfection fait la poésie.”
Imperfection creates poetry.
Designers often seek control. But I’ve learned to work with what arrives.
I let the material tell me what it wants to be.
And in that quiet collaboration, something honest is born.
🧠 Design Heart, Strategy Mind
You may know me as a sustainability project manager.
But before that, I was a designer.
And always, I’ve been a listener.
With a double degree in business and design, and an MBA focused on strategy, I learned to speak the language of both product and purpose.
But my true fluency comes from knowing how to listen to materials.
To ask:
• Where were you made?
• Who touched you?
• What will you become?
• Can you go back?
美感不应该牺牲地球。
Beauty should never sacrifice the earth.
Loop and Love is not “just” cute scrunchies.
It is proof that with thought, we can stitch aesthetics, ethics, and empathy into one single loop.
🌀 Circularity Is More Than a Concept. It’s a Commitment
I don’t use the word circularity lightly.
It’s not a buzzword for me. It’s a blueprint.
Yes, the products are made of recycled and upcycled materials.
Yes, they fund hygiene product donations with every purchase.
But my deeper vision?
To one day turn scrunchies back into yarn, close the loop, and repurpose used ones into new forms.
“L’avenir est circulaire. Mais il commence petit.”
The future is circular. But it starts small.
That’s why I test ideas with Loop and Love before scaling them to my other product lines.
Each scrunchie is a miniature pilot of systems thinking, an ecosystem of impact, stitched from waste and hope.
🌏 Asia-Sourced, Intentionally Chosen
All my materials, from packaging to yarn, are sourced regionally from Asia.
It’s a conscious choice, not a shortcut.
Sourcing closer to where I live reduces shipping emissions.
It also allows me to visit suppliers, build trust, and make informed decisions about labour practices and supply chain integrity.
“Je travaille avec ce que je peux voir.”
I work with what I can see.
Instead of chasing global glamour, I build with regional realism.
And that matters, especially in a region where sustainable fashion is still gaining ground.
✨ The Hidden Message in Every Stitch
Sometimes I crochet while listening to music.
Other times, I crochet in silence, letting my hands move with memory.
Every stitch, every loop, holds intention.
You may not see the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment).
You may not know the certifications.
But you will feel the difference, in texture, in weight, in energy.
Because I didn’t choose these materials randomly.
I chose them because they align with who I am and where I’m going.
Quand je choisis un fil, je choisis un futur.
When I choose a thread, I choose a future.
So the next time you wear a Loop and Love scrunchie,
Know that it’s made from more than just fabric.
It’s made from belief. Boundaries. Balance.
It’s proof that materials can hold meaning, and that beauty doesn’t need to shout to be powerful.
🧵 Thank you for being part of this loop.
